A tooth veneer is a thin porcelain shell that is permanently bonded to a tooth
either to change its color or shape. Veneers only cover the part of the tooth that you can see when you smile and leave the rest of the natural tooth intact. Typically, several teeth are veneered at once to create an esthetically pleasing and symmetrical smile. They are a cosmetic service to improve the patient’s smile and confidence. Some patients who choose veneers want a permanent beautiful white smile and not have to continue to use tooth whitening products.
Veneers take two appointments to complete. At the first appointment the teeth to be veneered are prepared in order to accommodate the porcelain that will be bonded to them. An impression is taken of the prepared teeth. The impression is sent to the dental lab where a skilled technician will make the veneers. Temporary veneers are placed for use between appointments. At the second appointment, we try the veneers in, make sure they fit the teeth properly and most importantly make sure you are happy with how they look. The veneers are then permanently placed on your teeth with a dental cement.
